Monotype is a printmaking technique that results in one unique image. Oil inks are applied with a brayer to a plate such as glass or metal. Rags and q-tips are used to wipe highlights and to create an image. The plate is run through a printing press with paper. The image is then transferred to paper to create a singular unique print. Monotype is sometimes referred to as a “painterly print”.
